A Weekend for Bereaved Parents

Bereaved Parents’ Network Co-ordinators Kath and Mike Coulson tell you about this special weekend...

Photo of Kath and Mike CoulsonOur son Philip died suddenly just after his 7th birthday. He became ill whilst playing at school and died of a brain haemorrhage later that night.

“Our first experience of Care for the Family’s support was at a weekend for bereaved parents three years later. It was so good to meet with others who understood some of the pain of losing a child. Suddenly we didn’t feel so alone.

“Seeing people smile and looking at how life can have meaning again was helpful.”
If your son or daughter has died, whether recently or a while ago, we would like to invite you to ‘A Weekend for Bereaved Parents,’ where you’ll experience warmth, understanding and comfort. There may be tears (that’s common on a weekend like this), but we hope there will also be times when you smile, and maybe even laugh again.

“And when the weekend comes to a close, it is our great hope that you will begin to feel stronger and more able to continue your journey, knowing that you have friends to turn to who understand and care.”

Photo of a couple deep in thoughtDuring the weekend you will:
  • Have time to talk about your son or daughter
  • Look at different issues – including emotions, relationships, and faith
  • Learn strategies to help you in your journey through loss
  • Have an opportunity to participate in a time of thanksgiving to celebrate the life of your child
  • Take ‘time out’ to relax
“Thank you for such a special weekend. It’s been so good to not feel ‘different’ and isolated. I shall be going home tired, but recharged and emotionally lighter.”
The weekend is being held at the modern Staverton Park Hotel in Daventry, where the full range of facilities will be available to you.
