Befriender Network Volunteer
For over a year now I've been part of Care for the Family's Additional Needs telephone befriending service, which offers support to parents of children with additional needs.
My phone calls with parents tend to last for up to an hour. For me, it is a way of listening to, and helping parents who are going through the same emotions and struggles that I've been through in the past. It is often encouraging and rewarding to see the difference 'befriending' can make to someone's situation.
Can you help us stand with hurting families?
We know that life does not always work out the way we had hoped or anticipated. For some, untimely bereavement or having a child with additional needs can have a devastating effect on family life.
Our Telephone Befrienders are available to offer support, encouragement and hope to people as they face an uncertain future by giving them opportunity to talk with someone who has travelled a similar journey, and really does understand. We offer support in the following areas:
- Parenting a child with Additional Needs
- Parenting a child with an Eating Disorder
- Supporting Bereaved Parents
- Supporting those Widowed Young
If you have personal experience of any of the above, and feel you are now able to support others, then please contact us for further information.
