One way you can support families now and long into the future is by leaving a gift in your will. Some people think that wills are just for the wealthy but, in fact, it’s important that we all make provision for our families.

The good news is that writing a will needn’t be complicated, expensive or difficult. Providing you think through your plans for the future, and speak to a solicitor who understands your personal circumstances, it should be relatively straightforward.

After you’ve made sure your family is cared for in your will, you may want to continue supporting your favourite charities and causes through a legacy or a bequest.

To make a pledge to Care for the Family, please complete our pledge form below.

‘I know from personal experience what it's like to go through hard times. Having Care for the Family standing by me was so important. That's why I want to remember them long into the future.’

Making a will

Care for the Family has produced a free information booklet to guide you through the process of leaving a legacy gift. You can receive your ‘Guide to Wills and Legacies’ by post, or download it here.

Remember: always seek professional legal advice if you are considering having your will drawn up or amended.

We have partnered with the National Free Wills Network to give you the opportunity to write your will for free. Please note a complex will may incur some additional charges.

Legacies are a way of giving beyond your own lifetime, helping to support future generations and their families.

Every family experiences tough times in life – but with the right help we can make it through. Care for the Family’s passion is to see families strengthened through the right kind of support and encouragement – whether through an event, telephone helpline or other kind of resource. Your gift, however big or small, means families in the future will get the support they need when they’re struggling.

We’d love to hear from you if you have decided to remember Care for the Family in your will. It means we can thank you for your kind and generous support, plus it helps us to plan ahead. Of course, you can still change your will at any time – simply contact your solicitor.

Finally, we want to respect your privacy and completely understand if you choose not to tell us your wishes. There is no obligation for you to tell us. However, if you would like to fill in our Pledge Form, please click here.

If you haven’t had your will written yet, all you have to do is inform your solicitor of your wishes when they draw up the will. If you’ve already made your will and you want to add to it, you can make an amendment (a Codicil) as long as your changes aren’t too extensive.

When you visit your solicitor, you will need to give them the following information:

  • Care for the Family’s registered charity number: 1066905
  • Care for the Family’s address: Care for the Family, Tovey House, Cleppa Park, Newport, NP10 8BA

You may also like to consider what kind of legacy you want to leave:

  • A percentage share of what you have (e.g. you might choose to give 10% to charity).
  • The remainder of your estate after debts and gifts to others have been paid (known as a Residuary Legacy) These gifts are unaffected by inflation, making your gift go further.
  • A fixed sum of money (known as a Pecuniary Legacy) – this kind of gift may well be worth less in years to come, due to inflation.
  • A gift, such as a painting or item of jewellery (known as a Specific Legacy).

Your solicitor will then be able to help you include the legacy as part of your will.

It helps us enormously if you let us know your intentions, so we can more effectively plan ahead! Click here to fill in our Pledge Form.
