Time Out for Parents: Children with Special Needs Familiarisation Day

Train to run our specialist course to support and encourage parents and carers of a special needs child.

The Children with Special Needs course aims to help parents build their child’s self esteem and develop good communication skills. It goes on to look at each child’s development, ways to meet the needs of their child and how to set and stick to boundaries. It also explores what schools and other agencies can offer for children with special needs and their parents and how the wider family plays a part.

The Time Out for Parents: Children with Special Needs Familiarisation training will take you through the materials and activities of the supportive and informal seven sessions. This training is only available to our core licenced facilitators. To become a licenced facilitator, you will need to attend our Time Out for Parents Facilitator Training. Once you gain a core facilitator licence, you can book on to this one day training to help support parents of children with special needs.

Specialist licence

This licence is issued for a period of twenty-four months and will be renewed for a further twenty-four months when you register at least one course within this time period and return the appropriate documentation to Care for the Family.

We provide our licensed facilitators with on-going support through a free-phone helpline, group Facebook page, dedicated webpages and e-newsletters.

We are offering two opportunities to train online in autumn 2021.

The training is a combination of online learning, as well as a live group session with the trainers. In order to attend the live session, you will first need to have completed the online learning.

The live group session will be conducted using Zoom. If you have not used Zoom before, it will really help to become familiar with this software before attending the live sessions. We’ve put together a handy guide which will be sent out prior to the training.

For the best training experience, we strongly recommend that you access the live sessions via a PC or laptop.

How will it work?

  • Online learning to be completed prior to the live session.
  • Live group session with the trainers. One day – 9.30 am-2.30 pm
