Home for Good

Helping churches to support those who adopt or foster

Home for Good logoEvery day over 50 children are taken into care in the UK. They are removed from chaotic, traumatic, abusive or neglectful situations. Some need a home in an emergency; others need a temporary home until they can return to their families; and some need a permanent home with a new ‘forever family’.

The Church is uniquely placed to offer its help to meet this need. Once potential carers have been through the full process of assessment, the Church could provide an excellent community of support to ‘wrap around’ families who are adopting or fostering children.

Parents and carers of children who have had a tough start to life can face many challenges. Children may be struggling with attachment disorder, and may have suffered multiple moves, disruption and loss. All these things can affect children for many years, even if they are now settled in a loving home.

As part of the Home for Good initiative, Care for the Family aims to equip churches to know how they can effectively support such families.

Home for Good are also building a network of adoptive parents and foster carers, who can support and encourage one another. Contact them and they can put you in touch with your nearest volunteer regional coordinator. Find out more – phone the Home for Good team on 0300 001 0995 or email

The Home for Good initiative was launched by Care for the Family, Thirtyone:eight (previously, CCPAS (The Churches’ Child Protection Advisory Service) and the Evangelical Alliance. Home for Good is now a stand-alone charity which aims to build a culture in local churches throughout the UK where adopting and fostering are a significant part of their life and ministry. Care for the Family is working with Home for Good to help churches to be more supportive of foster carers and adoptive families in their congregations.
