Training to help churches support bereaved people

Bereavement Care Awareness aims to equip churches by giving them the tools they need to support bereaved people in their church or wider community.

You’ll come away with:

  • A better knowledge of how bereavement affects people in different ways.
  • An understanding of the grieving process.
  • Ideas for the practical and emotional support you can offer someone in the weeks and months after the funeral.
  • Practical skills to carry out supportive listening, a key tool in bereavement support.
  • Advice and tips on ways your church can support bereaved people in your community.

Understanding bereavement

Studies show that on average each death affects at least 5 people. This means that in the UK alone, 3 million people experience grief in some form each year.

We understand just how much of an impact loss can have on each individual and how great a need there is for bereavement support.

In many cases, the church is best placed to provide this support after the funeral. Yet we realise it can be hard to know where to start when it comes to helping people through what can potentially be one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Whether you have many years of experience supporting bereaved people or you are relatively new to it, this training will help equip you to support those suffering the pain and heartache of loss.

Facilitating Bereavement Care Awareness training

Would you be interested in training to facilitate Bereavement Care Awareness or to let others in your area know about Care for the Family’s bereavement support services? We’re looking for volunteers for both roles. If you think you might be interested, please contact Sonya.Pascoe@cff.org.uk
